Looking for the best place to have breakfast in Sydney? Do you find yourself craving a great coffee with perfectly cooked eggs on sourdough, or maybe it’s the bircher that floats your boat.

Whatever you fancy, we’ve got it covered! We’ve sampled breakfasts all over Sydney and we’ve managed to narrow it down to our top 10. Not an easy task!

You should know; we don’t take this list lightly. Our favourite meal of the day is breakfast. Hands down!

Since we kicked our 9-to-5 jobs to the kerb we’ve had plenty of time to enjoy some great early brekkies, brunches and all-day breakfasts. So, if you’re looking for your next café to hit up…look no further!

Here’s our Top 10 Best Breakfasts in Sydney…

John Smith Café | Waterloo

We were reluctant to share this one as it’s our most favourite café in Sydney…and they don’t have many tables! But honestly, it’s too good not to share. The staff are awesome and really look after you. Even when you’re waiting for a table they’ll hook you up with a cold drip coffee to tide you over. Situated in Waterloo, they offer way more than your average breakfast meal and everything looks and tastes great. They serve a mean coffee too!

  • Vic’s Favourite: Eggs Benedict with pulled pork on sourdough
  • Elaina’s Favourite: Avocado salsa with goats cheese on sourdough (pictured)

Lox Stock and Barrel | Bondi

This place is a pretty new discovery for us, and we love it! Located in the heart of Bondi finding a parking spot can be tough, but trust us the food is worth it. The wait doesn’t tend to be long as they’ve got lots of seats, just jot your name on the list and wait for a table. After brekkie we like to walk it off along the coastal walk! (see A Day at Bondi Beach)

  • Vic’s Favourite: Zucchini Omelette
  • Elaina’s Favourite: Bowlarama (pictured)

The Hill Eatery | Bondi Beach

A recent addition to our long list of brekkie options, The Hill Eatery had to make it into the top ten. Perched on the hill overlooking Bondi Beach, this café slash restaurant slash bar has it all. For us, the fact that they serve breakfast all day was enough to hook us in! Lauren and the guys have really nailed it with great coffee and one of the best brekkie menus in the Sydney. If you haven’t been…go! You won’t be disappointed.

  • Vic’s favourite: Breakfast Salad with a slice of rye toast on the side
  • Elaina’s favourite: Zucchini & Haloumi Fritters (pictured)

Ruby’s Diner | Bronte

This place gets jammed on the weekend, so get here early or even mid week if you’re not keen on waiting a while for a table. We’ve sampled many dishes on the menu and have never been disappointed. The only downside is the service, whether you come during the week or the weekend it’s usually a bit slow, so don’t come starving (especially if you suffer from hanger like Elaina!). That said, the wait is worth it for the food…yum!

  • Vic’s Favourite: Scrambled eggs on toast – the best scrambled eggs in Sydney!
  • Elaina’s Favourite: House-made baked beans with feta, oregano & toast (pictured)

The Grounds | Alexandria

This place is more than your average breakfast haunt; it’s a complete experience for the whole family. With food stalls, farm animals (their resident pig is called Kevin Bacon), a restaurant, a takeaway food and coffee bar, patisserie, florist, real lemonade stand and great coffee all packed into a cool indoor/outdoor space, The Grounds really does have it all. Head here when you’ve got time to spare so you can have a look around. These guys are always mixing it up and with different stalls to peruse.

Bourke Street Bakery | Surry Hills

This iconic bakery in Surry Hills is a Sydney must-do. They don’t do anything too fancy, just tasty, fresh baked pastry items and yummy bread. Everything is mouth-wateringly good! As we’re just around the corner from this place, every day our self-control is challenged by walking past. Famous for their meat pies and sausage rolls, these guys know their stuff when it comes to baking. Our weakness has to be their croissants…OMG, we reckon they’re the best you can get outside of France!

  • Vic’s favourite: Croissant + Piccolo
  • Elaina’s favourite: Croissant + Latte

The Boathouse | Palm Beach

Located in Palm Beach, also known as Summer Bay to Home & Away fans, The Boathouse is a picture perfect café on the water. With friendly staff, the best coffee on the beaches and beautiful views, you can’t beat a lazy brunch in the sun on the outdoor deck. In summer this place gets packed but in winter it’s a little less busy, so rug up and head there for a great bite to eat at one of the best locations in Sydney.

  • Vic’s favourite: Poached eggs with bacon, roast tomatoes and sourdough
  • Elaina’s favourite: Avocado and tomato on charred toast with goats curd & basil

The Book Kitchen | Surry Hills

This place is close to our hearts as it’s our local café and we love it! You’ll find us sat at the sunny tables outside, the big table inside or the window seat sipping our fave almond lattes (Emma is the best barista ever!). The staff always look after us with super quick service and big smiles. They have free wifi too so we’ve been known to pitch up here to do a bit of work, it’s one of the great coffices (café-office) in Sydney. We love their homemade muffins; so good if you want a sweet treat to go with your coffee. These guys also open for dinner in the evenings too and have some really good deals on food!

  • Vic’s favourite: Avocado Sourdough
  • Elaina’s favourite: Poached Eggs on 5 grain sourdough with a side of bacon
  • Pictured: Corn Fritters

Leichhardt Organic Food Market | Leichhardt

When we were living in the inner west of Sydney, our weekly tradition was a leisurely stroll to Orange Grove Public School in Leichhardt to shop for our veggies and grab one of our fave breakfasts in Sydney. Here you will find the BEST, and we mean THE BEST, bacon and egg rolls in the whole of Sydney! You’ll find the stall by looking for the long queue of hungry people waiting patiently in line. Don’t worry though; these guys have their production line down to a fine art so you won’t be waiting long. The perfect accompaniment is a hot, strong coffee from the Mayan coffee stall; their chilli chocolate coffee beans are also a big hit!

  • Vic’s favourite: Bacon & Egg Roll + Mayan Coffee
  • Elaina’s favourite: Bacon & Egg Roll + Mayan Coffee

Egg of the Universe | Rozelle

This wholefoods café + yoga studio is a Freedom Travellers favourite. When we lived in the area this would be our first stop as soon as we got home after a trip away. One of the best things about this place is that they cater for every possible food preference. Vegan, gluten free, herbivore or omnivore, there’s something for everyone on this brekkie menu. Grab a spot out the back under the big tree and let their awesome staff look after you. In the winter it can get a bit chilly so make sure you rug up!
