Got 24 hours to spare in Sydney? Here’s our kick-ass itinerary that’ll have you soaking up the highlights of our amazing city. This whirlwind schedule will ensure you don’t miss out on a thing that stunning Sydney has to offer!
Sydney traffic is pretty shocking and parking is expensive so to get the most out of your day, we recommend catching public transport. You can buy either a multi-day pass or Opal card. Depending on how long you’re in Sydney will determine which one works best for you.
If you haven’t used this app already (have you been living under a rock?!), now is the time to download it. Based on your location, it’ll direct you to your destination using public transport by bus, ferry or train.
Sunrise Over Bondi Beach
Located 7km east of Sydney’s CBD, Bondi is home to Australia’s most iconic beach. All year round surfers of all levels, flocks of tourists and locals frequent the famous Bondi Beach. Grab your camera. Sunrise over the beach is worth waking up early for!
Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk
This is our favourite walk in Sydney, and we’re not the only ones who think it’s pretty special! When the sun is shining, the coastal walk is the place to be. This 6km (return) leisurely walk hugs the coastline so keep your eye out for whales and even the odd Aussie celebrity! Have your camera handy, as there are lots of great vantage points along the way.
Catch the bus from Bondi Beach over to The Domain and take a walk through the Royal Botanic Gardens. This peaceful walk is set amongst 30 hectares of plants and flowers from all over the world. Follow the signs for the Sydney Opera House and you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of Sydney Harbour…a great opportunity to take the perfect picture of both the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House!
Follow the shoreline past the ferries at Circular Quay and you’ll end up at The Rocks. This place is always alive and buzzing with people. At the weekend you’ll get to enjoy the outdoor markets, otherwise there are plenty of great old pubs where you can grab a bite to eat. Our favourite is The Glenmore Hotel. They have a great roof top bar with awesome water views of Sydney Harbour.
This waterside Art Deco building is situated in The Rocks on Sydney’s foreshore. If contemporary art is your thing, then spend some time cruising around the gallery. Coffee and scones or a glass of bubbles? Whatever your cup of tea, head up to level 4 and enjoy the indoor/outdoor MCA café. You’ll appreciate the epic views of Sydney Harbour.
If you’re looking for another way to see the harbour, then walking up to the top of one of Sydney’s Harbour Pylons is a must. Plus, if you’re on a budget, it’s much cheaper than The Bridge Climb. The Pylon Lookout is 87 metres (200 steps) above sea level and you’ll enjoy fantastic views of the harbour. There’s only one pylon that’s open to the public, which can be accessed via Cumberland Street in The Rocks.
Champagne & Cheese
By this time you’ll be ready to kick back. Take a walk back to the Opera House and chillax at one of the best bars in Sydney, if not the world, Opera Bar. On the lower level of the Opera House, this outdoor bar is a great place to relax over a cool drink or two. Get there for sunset and to watch the sun come down over Sydney Harbour. The perfect way to end your 24 hours in Sydney!
When the sun has finally set, head over to the Shangri La. They’ve got an epic bar 36 levels above Sydney city. Relish in spectacular views of the city while enjoying pre-dinner cocktails.
For some top notch food head over to Café Sydney. Located on the rooftop of the Customs House in Circular Quay, this place is perfect for lunch or dinner. Choose from fresh seafood and ocean fish along with great cuts of Aussie meat, yum!
Sydney is a beautiful city and with so many places to do and see it’s hard to squeeze it all into one day. We hope you enjoyed our one-day jam-packed highlights tour!
