5 Essential Items For A Spontaneous Weekend Escape

Posted on Posted in Blog

After a hard week in the office, wouldn’t you love to throw caution to the wind, jump in the car and head off for a couple of nights away somewhere? Well, now you can with our 5 essential items for a spontaneous weekend escape…we’ve covered everything off for you!

Plus, it’s Valentine’s Day this weekend so if you haven’t planned ahead, this advice might just be perfectly timed. 😉

There’s nothing we love more than a spontaneous escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Even though we run our own businesses from wherever we are, sometimes a break from staring at a computer screen is definitely a good idea. A couple of days away can be the perfect way to unwind, unplug, recharge and get away from it all.

As you know, spontaneity is our middle name, so when we feel like we need a couple of days off but don’t want to organize anything (not our style!) we simply jump in the car and go!

When these moments arise, we usually have just enough time to grab a few things and head off before peak hour traffic hits.

Here’s our list of our 5 essential items for a spontaneous weekend escape

1. Overnight bag

Usually with a quick dash out of the city, you may not know where you’ll end up until you get there. Our advice, chuck a few clothes in a bag and away you go. Don’t over think it. Layers are always a good idea and undies of course. Swimmers are a good option too in case you decide to take a dip or your awesome weekend accommodation happens to have a hot tub. The key with the overnight bag…less is more! Most accommodation options will have those lovely hotel sized toiletries to get you through a weekend away so with a change of clothes, your toothbrush and toothpaste you should be set!

2. Phone Charger

These are always handy, especially if you’re using your phone as a GPS to navigate to your destination. We have an in car charger that’s great for when we’re on the go. Once you’ve booked your accommodation (we use Hotel Quickly as it always gives us the best rate for last minute deals!) and found your way to your place to call home for a couple of days, you can completely unplug and reconnect with the real world. Ahhh, bliss!

3. Car Snacks

If you suffer from hanger (angry hunger) like we do, car snacks are essential! This is especially important if you run into a spot of weekend traffic on your journey out of the city. Our advice, always have car snacks handy to keep you going until you reach your destination and can give room service a call! Alternatively you could sneak out of the office early, beat the traffic and settle in for an early dinner at your destination!

4. Camera

If you’re heading somewhere scenic, grab your camera to get some happy snaps. For the majority of us, a trusty smart phone will usually suffice. But if you’re a budding photographer (like Elaina), or you want to ditch your phone for the weekend, make sure you’ve got your camera with you to capture that amazing sunrise from your balcony or the kangaroos on the front lawn at dusk. Wherever you end up, make sure you have your camera or GoPro on hand!

5. Appropriate Footwear

Many times we’ve been caught out on a short trip with only thongs on our feet…yes our mad dash out of the city sometimes happens that quickly! Our advice is to grab a pair of running shoes or Converse just incase you decide to head out for a hike or bush walk. Sometimes thongs just don’t cut it. Especially in the chillier months!

And there you have it; you’re all set for a spontaneous weekend away! Let us know where you’ll be heading off to and comment below.
