Looking for the top 25 ultimate travel experiences on the planet?
Victoria and I have worked out that between us we’ve been fortunate enough to have lived, worked, and partied in 37 different countries on this friggin’ amazing place that is planet Earth!
Some we’ve traveled to solo, some we’ve been to together and others are sitting high on our vision board right NOW. I don’t know about you, but we’ve got some BIG travel dreams this year that will include selling up all of our stuff here in Sydney to live a digital nomad life in hot steamy Asia. Yeeeew! We are PUMPED about 2016 and we’re only a week in.
Where in Asia will we end up? We’re not 100% sure. But I love that feeling. When you know you’re going to be heading off, but you’re not quite sure where. Its that moment when you know anything is possible and you have epic visions of what the future may hold.
Armed with our passport, credit card, and the freedom to pack up and go…we’ve started scrolling Instagram for some destination inspo to capture our imagination.
Ready, set, go!

Endless pure white sandy beaches and blue turquoise waters. That’s what you can expect when you come to Broome, Western Australia. This famous beach stretches 22 km (13.6 miles) and is the perfect place to watch the sunset over the water while taking a camel ride along the sand!
#5 Swim with Hammerheads in the Galapagos Islands | Equador
The Galapagos Islands are the ultimate location for confident scuba divers to see schools of Scalloped Hammerhead sharks. Want to swim with hundreds, even thousands of hammerheads? Then head to the Galapagos Islands in June when they’re migrating.

Cuba is tipped to be a tourist hot spot in 2016 and accommodation is reportedly booking up fast! Havana is described as a city frozen in time. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into your hot tub time machine and gone back to the 1950’s and 60’s.
#7 Marvel at the Taj Mahal | India
India polarises tourists. From what we’ve heard you’ll either love it or hate it. Even still, Victoria and I want to go so we can visit one of the most iconic jewels in India’s crown. Did you know that the Taj Mahal was built by one of the emperors in memory of his favourite wife? Pretty cool eh!
#8 Eat Pizza in Cinque Terre | Italy
La Dolce Vita A photo posted by Hamdi (@halzaim) on
I love Italy! I still kick myself that I didn’t get to Cinque Terre the last time I was there. With legendary photo opps like this, how could you not want to go? Plus, the Italians make the best pizza in the world…what other reason do we need?!
#9 Get Lost in Santorini | Greece
Considered one of the most romantic getaway destinations in Greece, Santorini has it all when it comes to an ultimate travel destination. With it’s multicolored cliffs dotted with white houses overlooking deep blue seas, Santorini is one of the most picture perfect destinations on earth.
If that’s not enough to tempt you, did you know that you can simply hop on a boat to be taken to nearby Crete in two hours? You can even rent a car from e-mietwagenkreta while you’re there to get even more of a taste of Greek culture.
The island is also in close proximity to a massive crater left by one of the biggest volcanic eruptions in history. Wowser.
#10 Witness Killer Whales Hunt Seals at Peninsula Valdes | Argentina
Orcas in this region have developed a unique hunting technique of intentionally beaching themselves to capture seals resting on the shore. Incredible. #orca #killerwhale #hunting #incredible #apexpredator #wild #wildlife #nature #wildlifephotography #travel #traveling #travelawesome #travelphotography #explore #discover #becurious #doyoutravel #wanderlust #southamerica #peninsulavaldes #Argentina A photo posted by Allyson Hawkins (@aphawkinsaz) on
Peninsula Valdes is the only place in the world where the killer whales come right up to the shore line to grab resting seals from the sand. You have to admit, it would be a pretty surreal experience to witness this in real life? If you’re game, head to Argentina in early March through to April.
If you’re there between June to December you can see the southern right whales. I’ve been, and if you want to see whales this is THE place to go.
#11 Live a Digital Nomad Life in the Gili Islands | Indonesia
Victoria and I are looking for the ultimate tropical destination office to work on The Freedom Travellers in 2016. Indonesia looks like a pretty epic office to me! What do you reckon?!
#12 …Or Maybe Thailand For The Win?!
Today we’re in serious 2016 planning mode! At this point we’re 97% sure we’re going to pack up our Sydney home, sell everything and head off to live in Asia, like true digital nomads!! Totally excited about this. Serious question though… Which country do we base ourselves from? Indonesia, Thailand… Or somewhere else??? World of possibilities! Exciting times ahead! ??????? #digitalnomads #thailand A photo posted by Victoria & Elaina (@thefreedomtravellers) on
Thailand is second on our list when it comes to a new place to call home for a few months this year. Way better than sitting in Sydney’s peak hour traffic, eh?!
#13 Shop Up A Storm in New York City | USA
No word of a lie, Victoria dreams about this place every night. Pictures of this iconic city are plastered all over her office wall. New York, New York so good they named it twice. I just worry about the kind of damage Vic will do on our credit card…NYC is the place to go to shop up a storm!
#14 Go on Safari in Serengeti National Park | Tanzania
My absolute favourite photo from my time traveling – a leopard relaxes in a tree after feasting on an impala. The impala in question was wedged farther up the tree to be finished later, but this stunning beauty was happy to pose for a few dozen pictures. A photo posted by Chris Walker-Bush (@aussieontheroad) on
We’ve wanted to do a safari in Africa for ages and we reckon 2016 is the year to make it happen. After doing some research and talking to people who’ve done an African safari and all signs point to the Serengeti!
#15 Hang Out with Orangutans in Borneo | Indonesia
A mother #orangutan with a baby on her back swing through the jungles of Tanjung Puting National Park in Indonesian #Borneo. We got to this area of the Park traveling on the Sekonyer River on a klotok – a two story boat that looks like it is straight out of an old movie. For the first two years of this young orangutan’s life, it will be completely dependent on its mother. Even after it begins to explore, it will stay with its mother for 6 years or so before going off on its own. Tanjung National Park, like much of Borneo, was threatened by fire this year and is also under pressure from palm plantations that continue to expand all around it. Watching these amazing creatures in their natural environment makes you understand the importance of protecting them and their habitat. @natgeocreative
I mean seriously, how cute are orangutans! We are busting to see these guys in their natural habitat in Borneo. They’ve had a rough time with all the forest fires in Indonesia so to see them happy and thriving in their home would be an amazing experience.
Did you know orangutans that we have 97% of our DNA in common with us human beings?!
#16 Go Snowboarding at Jackson Hole | USA
T-Minus 13 Days Photo Countdown To that one time I found a huge bull moose in the forest, after the first snowfall of the winter in Wyoming. I’ve snowboarded around the world and Jackson Hole is at the very top of my list for winter destinations…I just haven’t managed to hit this place up yet. The area gets a truckload of snow each year and is one of the best places in the USA for easy access to some major back country freshies! There’s also a huge wildlife population out here too, oh hey there Mr. Moose!
#17 Party on Labor Day Weekend in Las Vegas | USA
Las Vegas is THE place to spend Labor Day Weekend in the USA. We’ve done it and WOW. It was completely crazy and totally awesome. We saw David Guetta play at the Wynn Encore Beach Club. Think pool party on a major scale!
Check which DJs will be playing in advance, book your cabana and you’re pimpin’ hotel suite and you’re good to go! If you really want to go the extra mile to make your trip that little bit more luxurious, why not book your very own Private Jet Charter? One of our friends is a hugely successful businesswoman and loves flying by private jet as she gets to skip traditional airport security. Maybe one day we will be able to do the same!
#18 Go Hot Air Ballooning in Cappadocia | Turkey
Amazing Capadocian sky? Have you ever been in there? #capadocia #sonyalpha A photo posted by ! ilkin karacan karaku? (@ilkinkaracan) on
Cappadocia is one of the most popular places in the world to go hot air ballooning. It’s easy to see why it’s a favourite for floating up in the sky as this place has some pretty stunning scenery. Huge valleys dotted with orchards and vineyards, this is a landscape that you have to see from above!
#19 Swim in ‘That’ Pool at Marina Bay Sands | Singapore
Just landed back in Sydney but had to share one last pic of Marina Bay Sands…we’ll be back again soon! How could we stay away from this place?! Elaina took so many photos this day as the sky was blue…after the haze everyone was so happy to have a blue sky day! Until next time Singapore! ? #Singapore #marinabaysands #thefreedomtravellers
When you think of Singapore, Marina Bay Sands immediately comes to mind. This incredible hotel and casino is home to a very special pool…with an 143 meter vanishing edge, the infinity pool at Marina Bay Sands is the highest elevated swimming pool on the planet.
We reckon there have been more photos taken in this pool than any other…don’t forget your selfie stick. Heading to Singapore? Check out our Best Things To Do in Singapore!
#20 Road Trip Along the Great Ocean Road | Australia
Slightly different view, slightly different time of day and a completely different mood. The 12 Apostles are the most popular rock formations on the Great Ocean Road. A photo posted by Dave Pidgeon (@take_a_journeywithme) on
When you think of doing a road trip, this one has to top the list as one of the most famous in the world. Hugging the coastline of Victoria in Australia and stretching 243 kilometres between Torquay and Allansford, The Great Ocean Road offers breathtaking scenery that you can experience on four wheels. Our advice, jump in a camper van and head off on the adventure of a life time!
#21 Explore Iguazu Falls | Brazil
Unlike the super commercialised Niagara Falls, Iguazu Falls on the border of Argentina and Brazil are in the heart of the jungle…no shops to be seen! The falls are so epic that I spent two days exploring both sides, one day on the Argentine side and the other from the Brazilian side.
Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife as there’s a good chance of spotting toucans, monkeys, and even jaguars. Did we mention this place is also one of the seven natural wonders of the world?!
#22 Sail the Whitsundays Islands | Australia
A photo posted by #lovewhitsundays (@whitsundaysqld) on
The Whitsunday Islands have to be up there as one of the best places in the world to sail. Turquoise waters teeming with marine life and a total of 74 islands to explore, this place is like paradise found. There’s something for all budgets here, but if it’s luxury you’re after you’ll want to book into Qualia resort which boasts not 5 but 6 stars!
#23 Escape For a Romantic Weekend in Prague | Czech Republic
Prague rivals Paris as one of the most romantic cities in the world. It’s rich history will keep even the most well traveled tourist happy with a millennium’s worth of historical hot spots to explore. Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, this place is up there on our top picks for a European city break!
#24 Surf a Party Wave in Hawaii | USA
????????? #waimeabay #clarklittle? A photo posted by clark little (@clarklittle) on
Of course we had to include the birthplace of modern surfing on our top 25 ultimate travel destinations. Head to Waikiki for your chance to ride a PARTY WAVE like this one! Don’t forget to keep an eye out for turtles swimming by beneath your board, they are flourishing here due to conservation efforts.
Like totally rad dude! ?
#25 See the Polar Bears in Svalbard | Norway
When it comes to spotting wildlife, seeing Polar Bears in person is up there on our top close encounter wish list. With climate change in full force, the population of these incredible animals is on the decline. There are actually two places that we are aiming to see these guys, both Norway and Alaska!
