Each year as winter rolls into Sydney, there’s an air of excitement about what has become one of my favourite times of year to live in our great city.
An 18-day festival of lights, music and heaps of other cool stuff!
I was a Vivid virgin until two years ago when my mind was blown by the festival of lights that sweeps Circular Quay and beyond. It seems to get more fabulous each year too!
Now in it’s 7th year, Vivid 2015 certainly didn’t disappoint! During a particularly cold snap in Sydney, we ventured out to see what Vivid was offering up this year. And we weren’t the only ones…over 1.7 million people flocked to Sydney’s CBD this year to revel in the magic of it all!
Sydney Skywalk
This year we did something a bit different to kick of our Vivid experience. High above the city is Sydney’s highest outdoor adventure – Sydney Skywalk at the Sydney Tower Eye!
Thrill seekers have the opportunity to get out into the elements 268 meters above ground level. This awesome experience gives you a bird’s eye view of the city complete with glass floor viewing area…not for the faint hearted! We did the Skywalk at night for full effect, complete with Vivid-esque accessories…a pretty cool way to see the city at this time of year.
Good news is that this attraction is open all year round, day and night! Get up there and check it out. The 4D movie theatre up there is pretty impressive too!
Customs House
This was our favourite light installation of Vivid this year, some seriously amazing special effects that looked so real! From a great white shark to a huge jacaranda tree this one was a clear winner for us.
Sydney Opera House
This Sydney icon looks pretty epic any time but during Vivid it gets even better. All the Vivid light installations have musical accompaniments and that makes it super special. Grab a tipple or hot chocolate at Opera Bar, kick back and watch the show!
MCA (Museum of Contemporary Art)
Think giant rubix cube type blocks dancing all over the MCA…awesome! Part of the show had a bit of a Matrix feel to it too…we watched this one a few times over. Amazing!
Sydney Harbour Bridge
Cross over the bridge to Kirribilli and you’ll get an awesome view of the Harbour Bridge’s Vivid offering. We took our tripod down to Luna Park and got some pretty amazing shots of the bridge and the harbour. There were heaps of other people down there snapping away too!
